“Feyre, Rhys, and their close-knit circle of friends are still busy rebuilding the Night Court and the vastly-changed world beyond. But Winter Solstice is finally near, and with it, a hard-earned reprieve. Yet even the festive atmosphere can’t keep the shadows of the past from looming. As Feyre navigates her first Winter Solstice as High Lady, she finds that those dearest to her have more wounds than she anticipated–scars that will have far-reaching impact on the future of their Court.”

My most anticipated release of this year did not let me down.

Though this a novella and not a full length novel from my favorite author of all time, Maas’ amazing writing and storytelling were able to tug at my heartstrings and give me all of the feels that the other 3 books in the series did as well.

Like I said, this a novella so there isn’t a whole ton of plot or character development. This book starts off a few months after the end of A Court of Wings and Ruin. It follows our beloved characters as they try to rebuild the Night Court after the war and prepare for the winter solstice.

While I thought that this was a great idea going into the book, I will be completely honest when I say I think that there was something missing.

I didn’t expect to much out of this book considering that it is a novella. I did really enjoy, don’t get me wrong, but I think that the lack of a plot was ultimately its downfall. We got great character developed, not so much in the main characters but in the side characters for example, Cassian and Mor. The relationship between Feyre and Rhysand was as adorable as usually and that wall sex scene towards the end of the book was STEAMY. All of these elements brought my somewhat ok rating of the book originally to a better rating due to the fact that they overshadowed the lack of plot.

Overall, I think this was a very interesting novella. Do I think it was completely necessary to add to this series? No but nevertheless, I think it was a fun addition. There was a twist at the end that I still can’t figure out exactly what happened but I’m sure that it will be resolved in the next installment in this series. Can’t wait for the next book to come out!
