Hello everyone! I hope you guys are all doing well!
So I am finally back to do another writing update on my book that I have been writing over these past couple of years.
I’ve talked about writing a book since I started this blog a year and a half now and since I wrote that first blog post announcing what I was planning on doing with my writing (you can find that post here!) a lot of things have changed.
I originally wanted to write a science fiction/dystopian book. Considering that is my favorite genre to read, I thought that starting off within that genre would be a good way to start my journey of one day becoming a published author.
I soon came to realize that writing a dystopian book is a lot harder than I originally thought. I had problems coming up with a central topic to discuss. What would be the main issue in this society? What made this society the way it is? I struggled for months to come up with answers to those questions.
So I put that project on the backburner. It is something that I would like to return to eventually but until I come up with a more detailed plan for that world, it will just be in the back of my mind.
I took a lot of time off from writing to focus on school from that point on. After my first semester back after 6 months off, I realized that I wanted to be an English major and not go into the medical field like I had planned for years previously. Reading and writing just came naturally once I returned to school so I knew what I wanted my career to be from that point on.
It is now almost 2 years since I came to realize that fact.
In those 2 years, I have finally come up with not one, but 2 ideas for novels I would like to write and one of them, I am already HALFWAY done with.
Last November, I participated in National Novel Writing Month, more commonly known as NaNoWriMo. I talked about this in a couple of posts by this is what got me motivated to write again. And, somehow, I managed to WIN it! I hit the 50,000 word count for that month and won the challenge.
It has now been about 5 months and I haven’t really touched that novel since if I am being completely honest.
Since NaNoWriMo wrapped up, I have surpassed that 50,000 word mark and I am now at 50,744 words, about halfway to the word count goal of 100,000 word that I have set for myself.
Since that book is a high fantasy retelling of the evil queen fairytale, I knew it was going to take some time to finish. This is only the first draft of this book so there is plenty of things that need editing when it is eventually finished.
The other Work in Progress that I can talk about is another fantasy. This time it is more of an urban fantasy with a historical twist. I haven’t actually started writing this one yet since I am planning on outlining it first so I don’t have too much to tell you guys about yet but I will say that it does have a spin on the Salem Witch Trials. I hoping to start this one soon.
So that is it as far as an update on my writing for now. I am hoping to do one of these updates every month to give you guys just some sneak peaks of what I am doing in my spare time. With school starting to wrap up for the spring semester in just over a month, I am taking a lot of time to focus on that but still have time to read and write for you guys.
So that is it for now. Be sure to let me know in the comments if you guys are writing anything as I would love to know!
