“In a time when Shadowhunters are barely winning the fight against the forces of darkness, one battle will change the course of history forever. Welcome to the Infernal Devices trilogy, a stunning and dangerous prequel to the New York Times bestselling Mortal Instruments series.
The year is 1878. Tessa Gray descends into London’s dark supernatural underworld in search of her missing brother. She soon discovers that her only allies are the demon-slaying Shadowhunters—including Will and Jem, the mysterious boys she is attracted to. Soon they find themselves up against the Pandemonium Club, a secret organization of vampires, demons, warlocks, and humans. Equipped with a magical army of unstoppable clockwork creatures, the Club is out to rule the British Empire, and only Tessa and her allies can stop them…”
This book was so good. I loved it.
This book series has a ton of hype around it (actually this all of the books by this author are very hyped up) and I totally understand it.
Tessa was honestly a character that took me a while to truly like and enjoy. At the beginning of the book, I found her kind of annoying and hard to like. Once she enter the world of the Shadowhunters, I did start to like her more. I think that once she entered that world, her personality changed for the better. The interactions with all of the other characters throughout the story made her actions and decisions make more sense. Overall, once I did start liking her as a character, I think she was a great character and I can’t wait to see her develop over the course of the rest of this series.
I also enjoyed all of the other characters in this book. My favorite character by far was Will. I know that is kind of the popular opinion with fans of the Shadowhunter books but I honestly could really connect with him. It might just be the fact that I have a soft spot for the kind of bad-boy characters but I really, really did enjoy him. I’ve heard that we kind of get more of a backstory on him in the next two books and I can’t wait to here more about him.
As far as the romance, this book has an example of a love triangle done well. I’m typically not a huge fan of love triangles unless they are done well. I’ve read a couple of those kinds of books in the past but this one has been by far my favorite. Will and Jem are both fantastic characters and I really enjoyed reading about the both of them. I can honestly see Tessa ending up with both of them. I can’t say that routing for one over the other at this point but I’m very excited and I’ll be happy with whoever Tessa ends up with in the end.
I think that the plot was the strongest part of this entire book. Once the action started to really pick, I was completely drawn in. There was a ton of battle scenes that I really enjoyed. There were a ton of plot twists that I didn’t see coming. At sometimes didn’t want to put the book down. And then the ending. Oh My God. I hadn’t seen that coming. I hadn’t expected to find out that Nate would betray his own sister. Just fantastic.
Overall, I think that this book was fantastic. I’m currently about halfway done with the second book in this series and I can already tell that it will just as good or even better than this one. I can’t wait to see where this series goes from here!
