“To save her mother’s life, Clary must travel to the City of Glass, the ancestral home of the Shadowhunters – never mind that entering the city without permission is against the Law, and breaking the Law could mean death. To make things worse, she learns that Jace does not want her there, and Simon has been thrown in prison by the Shadowhunters, who are deeply suspicious of a vampire who can withstand sunlight.
As Clary uncovers more about her family’s past, she finds an ally in mysterious Shadowhunter Sebastian. With Valentine mustering the full force of his power to destroy all Shadowhunters forever, their only chance to defeat him is to fight alongside their eternal enemies. But can Downworlders and Shadowhunters put aside their hatred to work together? While Jace realizes exactly how much he’s willing to risk for Clary, can she harness her newfound powers to help save the Glass City – whatever the cost?
Love is a mortal sin and the secrets of the past prove deadly as Clary and Jace face down Valentine in the third installment of the New York Times bestselling series The Mortal Instruments.”
This has been my favorite book in this series so far!! I really enjoyed.
After reading City of Ashes and was somewhat disappointed, I went into this book not knowing how I would feel about it when I finished it. I was hopeful but worried going in.
I must say that it did not let me down.
I still don’t like Clary as a main character so I’m glad we got to see a little less of her and more of the other characters in this series. Since I started reading this series, my favorite characters have been Alec, Magnus and Isabelle (and also Jace on some occasions). I have always felt like I could connect with those characters in some way. Their development throughout these first 3 books has been great and I can’t wait to see them develop more as the series goes on. I’m also hoping that I will start to like Clary as a character at some point.
As far as the romance aspects of this book, I was so glad to see that the characters that I was hoping to get together finally happened. As much as I don’t like Clary as a character, I feel like the scenes with her and Jace made me tolerate her for the most part. I was so glad to find out that they were not brother and sister after all. They just seem to even each other out and I can’t wait to see their romance develop.
My favorite romance in this series has always (and will always be) the romance between Alec and Magnus. They are just so cute together!! From the very beginning, I always felt like they were going to be eventually one of my bookish OTPs (one true pairings). They belong together and I hope they keep getting stronger as a couple as the series goes on.
The plot of this book. OH MY GOD. The plot of this book kept me on the edge of my seat. Even though I listened to this book on audio, I could feel the emotions of the characters through the narrator’s voice. It made me laugh, cry (RIP Max), and overall just gave me a ton of emotions that just made the story more enjoyable than I could have ever have been.
Overall, this book was great. Once again, this book has been my favorite book in this series so far and it is one of the only things that is keeping me interested in this series. I can’t wait to see where the author takes the story and the world from here.
