Summary:

“What if every life-altering choice you made could split your world into infinite worlds?

Almost fifteen, Alicia is smart and funny with a deep connection to the poet Sylvia Plath, but she’s ultimately failing in life. With a laundry list of diagnoses, she hallucinates different worlds- strange, decaying, otherworldly yet undeniably real worlds that are completely unlike her own with her single and one true friend. In one particularly vivid hallucination, Alicia is drawn to a boy her own age named Jax who’s trapped in a dying universe. Day’s later, her long-lost father shows up to her birthday party, telling her that the hallucinations aren’t hallucinations, but real worlds; she and Jax are bound by a strange past and intertwining present. This leads her on a journey to find out who she is while trying to save the people and worlds she loves. J.Q. Coyle’s The Infinity of You & Me is a wild ride through unruly hearts and vivid worlds guaranteed to captivate.”

Review:

*This book was sent to me for review by Griffin Publishing however all opinions stated are my own*

This book was definitely something I had never read before. It was a truly fantastic book.

It has been a while since I had read a truly great Young Adult Science Fiction novel. But when I read the synopsis of this novel, I immediately put in a request for a review copy (also known as a ARC copy) for it and I was lucky enough to receive it.

The setting of this book was very familiar to me. The story take place in my home state of Massachusetts. I was very interested to see all of the references to Boston and the state in general. Seeing the multiple references to Boston, for example Storrow Drive and Mass General, really put a smile on my face because I pass a lot of the things mentioned every time I go into Boston.

Alicia was a main character that I could definitely relate to. I enjoyed reading for her perspective and getting to know everything that was going through her mind. I think her ability to create all of these different worlds is amazing. I think it would be pretty cool to have that ability. She was a character that I would love to learn more about in other books or even a series of novellas.

I also enjoyed Alicia relationships with the other characters in the books. Her friendship with Hafeez. It reminded me a lot of my friendship with one of my best friends. I hope we get to see more of there friendship in future books. I also enjoyed her relationship with her parents. I enjoyed her mom’s perspective (who reminded me a lot of my mom) as well as her long-lost father’s perspective. Her and her father’s relationship was very interesting and I’m glad we did get to see it develop throughout the book. Finally, I really enjoyed her friendship with Jax. Jax was a great character on his own and him mixed with Alicia, that made for a very interesting story. Even though we didn’t see a whole ton of it in this book, I think it, as well as all of these relationships, played a key role.

The plot of this book was very interesting. Like I said, it was something I have never read before. I don’t really read a ton of sci-fi books but just from the synopsis of this books, I knew I was going to enjoy it. And I did. Everything that took place in this book played out in a way that I enjoyed. It was also very well written.

As much as I enjoyed this book, I did have a couple of problems with it. At times, I found the plot kind of confusing. When we were switching between the world that Alicia was currently in and the world in her mind was the parts I found the most confusing. The only other part I had a problem with was the last few chapters. In those chapters, the plot felt very rushed. Other than those couple of things, I really didn’t have any other problems with the book.

Overall, I really did enjoy this book. Thank you again to St. Martin’s Press for sending me a ARC copy of it. It came out on November 8th and I highly recommend everyone go check it out if you are interested in it. I hope there is going to be a sequel to this book because I would love to read more about this world.
