BLOOD WILL RUN. DREAMS WILL SHATTER. AN ARMY MUST RISE.
The assassin-queen has sworn not to turn her back on her kingdom again. Especially when she might be the only one who can raise an army to keep the Dark King from unleashing his beasts upon them all. But Erawan will wield Aelin’s past, her allies, and her enemies against her.
With a powerful court trusting Aelin to lead them, and her heart devoted to the warrior-prince at her side, what-or who-is she willing to sacrifice to spare her world from being torn apart?”

I need the next book in this series right now.
This was a fantastic book in this series. It has to be my favorite. It was so amazing.
The way Sarah J. Maas wrote this entire series up to this point has been amazing and everything about this book was more than I had anticipated.
Aelin’s character development in the past couple off books has been great. Seeing her transform from this assassin to taking on the role of a queen really added a whole new element to the story that when I first picked up the first book, Throne of Glass, I had not been expecting. I think her transformation between the two roles was a key element that needed to be put into the story.
There was a ton of romance in this book. We got to see two romances really develop and I happened to have enjoyed both of them.
The first romance was one that I have talked about in my reviews of Heir of Fire and Queen of Shadows and that romance is the relationship between Aelin and Rowan. When we got introduced to Rowan in Heir of Fire, I thought that he was going to make a great companion to Aelin throughout the two books that came after it. He seems like a nice, charming guy that I would want to have accompany me on my adventures. However, I didn’t think when I went into Queen of Shadows that it would turn into a romance. I truly believed, and still kind of do, that Aelin belonged with Dorian, who she had a relationship with in the first novel. But as that book went on and their relationship turned romantic, i started to kind of enjoy. When it came to this novel, however, my negative feelings that I had had in the past went away. I now think that their romance is playing a key part in this story and I enjoy it. When we found out that they had gotten married at the end of the book, I was surprised. I hadn’t seen it coming but to see them both happy, it’s really all that matters.
The other romance that I think that will play somewhat of a key role in the next book was this blossoming romance going on between Dorian and Manon. Their romance was another surprise that I think a lot of us fans of the series hadn’t seen coming. The transition from what they were both like in Queen of Shadows to what they were like in this book was great. Coming into this book, I hadn’t seen this coming but I’m glad to see what their relationship was like. Do I still believe that Aelin and Dorian belong together, yes. But do I appreciate the other characters they are in relationships, for the time being, with, yes. It will be interesting to see what this romance turns into in the next book.
The sex scenes in this book. Oh my god. It was another surprise that I hadn’t seen coming. But it definitely made the book more interesting for me. When Aelin and Rowan had sex, I was really shocked while reading it. But up to that point, the way their relationship had been going up to that point, I kind had seen it coming. After that, I thought for sure that Aelin was going to be pregnant but that wasn’t true. Even though Dorian and Manon really didn’t have sex in this book, they did come close a couple of times. Once again I hadn’t expected for this element to come into play in this book, but it sure was interesting to have it included.
The romances set aside, the plot of this book was really what drew me in. There was so many amazing moments in this book. The battle scenes were amazing. Aelin trying to defend her kingdom was just fabulous. Everything that played out in this book needed to happen. From the witches attacking Dorian’s kingdom in the first half of the book to the interaction between Aelin and her friends and Elena (which was my favorite part of the book). It all was perfect. Then Aelin was taken away with Elena. It was incredible. I think everything that happened in this book will definitely play a huge role in what happens in the next book. All of the moments throughout these past 5 books have played a role in the book that comes after.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book. This series was so hyped up before I started reading it and now I can definitely understand why. Sarah J. Maas has no become one of my favorite authors. Her writing style and storytelling is fantastic. I can’t wait to see what happens in the next book which will come out next year. I’m sure it will be just as fantastic. In the meantime, I think I will check out her other series, A Court of Thorns and Roses, which is a retelling of one of my all-time favorite fairy tales, Beauty and the Beast. It’s supposed to be just as fantastic and I’m sure it will be.
