“Percy Jackson is about to be kicked out of boarding school . . . again. And that’s the least of his troubles. Lately, mythological monsters and gods of Mount Olympus seem to be walking straight out of the pages of Percy’s Greek mythology textbook and into his life. And worse, he’s angered a few of them. Zeus’s master lightning bolt has been stolen, and Percy is the prime suspect.

Now Percy and his friends have just ten days to find and return Zeus’s stolen property and bring peace to a warring Mount Olympus. But to succeed on his quest, Percy will have to do more than catch a thief: he must come to terms with the father who abandoned him; solve the riddle of the Oracle, which warns him of a betrayal by a friend; and unravel a treachery more powerful than the gods themselves.”

I remember when I was in the 7th grade, I read this book. At the time I wasn’t a huge fan of it and didn’t want to continue on with the series. Then, about 2 years ago, my cousin really got into the series, so I figured I would give it another shot eventually. In the past few months, I have seen it become a huge hit in the BookTube community on YouTube, so I finally told myself after it was my book club’s book of the month for April that I would pick up a copy at my local library and see if my opinion had changed since I first read it over 5 years ago.

Man am I glad I decided to reread it.

This book is amazing. I was hooked from the minute I started reading it. It was beautifully written. The plot was amazing. And of course, the characters were just incredible.

I learned so much about Greek mythology through this book. I loved learning about all the different gods and mythical creatures. When my cousin said that I was going to love this series, she was absolutely right.

A few years ago when I was still in high school, I got to read one of Rick Riordian’s other books. That book was the first book in his Kane Cornicles series called The Red Pyramid. Like this book, it was beautifully written and had a great plot.

I am so glad I decided to give this book another shot even after 5 years since the first time I read. I can’t wait to continue on with the series and read any other books Rick Riordian releases in the future.
